AB OBJECTIVE: To assess the survival probability of perinatal HIV acquired
infection on children, after the onset of AIDS-like signs or symptoms,
in Kinshasa, Zaire. METHODS: As a part of an HIV vertical transmission
study conducted at Projet SIDA, we implemented a retrospective data
review on 92 perinatal HIV-infected children (GpI) by contrast to 92
others born to HIV(+) mothers but not infected (GpII) and controls
(GpIII) born to HIV(-) mothers. RESULTS: Attributable risk of dying by
symptoms and by HIV serostatus TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME.
CONCLUSION: The HIV-infected children were 2 to 10 fold-higher at risk
of AIDS-like signs/symptoms than the two others groups. The HIV-infected
children management should be carefully organised.
